Align Your Spending With Your Values — Automatically.
Offsets aren’t a license to pollute. They’re the start of a more intentional way of living.
With Joro’s new Net Zero Membership, sign up for a personalized carbon offset that changes based on the purchases you make each month. Automatically offset everything you buy, then compete against yourself to lower your footprint and your fee.
As a member, you’ll access a portfolio of high-impact carbon removal projects, rigorously vetted and balanced to prioritize the solutions that matter most to get to net zero by 2050. Until now, this approach was only available to companies at the forefront of net zero commitments, like Microsoft and Shopify. Today, you can access the same high-impact offsetting strategy in Joro.
Accountability Matters: How the Net Zero Membership is Different
Carbon offsets are far from perfect. At their best, they allow us to compensate for the emissions we can’t reduce as we work towards a sustainable future. But at their worst, they have questionable impact and exacerbate the problem by making us feel that we are entitled to consume.
That’s why traditional, flat-fee offset subscriptions can be problematic: they don’t reflect your actual emissions or create a financial incentive to improve your lifestyle.
Transitioning to a sustainable future will require us to live lower-carbon lives - all of us. In the future, perhaps we will live in a society entirely powered by clean energy. But for the time being, we live in a fossil-fueled society, and even the most committed of us have a carbon footprint.
Rather than a flat fee, Joro’s Net Zero Membership calculates the cost of your offset based on your purchases you make on debit and credit cards you have linked to the Joro app. Each month, we’ll send you a personalized impact report, unique insights, and tailored tips to reduce your footprint. As you level up your climate practice and emit less, compete against yourself to lower your footprint and your fee.
Personalized Tracking: Manage What You Measure
The Carbonizer helps you trace your personal connection to a global issue. When you link your debit and credit cards to Joro, our rigorous Carbonizer algorithms analyze your shopping history to generate your unique carbon footprint in real time.
The climate crisis is not any of our faults. But by taking ownership of our emissions, we can also find our power in the solution.
How We Calculate Your Carbon Footprint
We calculate your carbon footprint based on how you spend money. For instance, if you spend $10 on a Lyft ride, we estimate your carbon footprint based on the average greenhouse gas emissions per dollar created by rideshare.
We also account for other information about your lifestyle. If you make a purchase at the grocery store – and we know you’re a vegetarian – your carbon footprint will be lower per dollar than that of a meat-eater. If you’re in a zipcode with a high cost of gasoline, your footprint will also be lower per dollar than someone who lives in an area with cheaper gas.
Joro seeks to be relatively accurate in estimating your emissions, helping you develop an intuition for the choices that matter most. All you need to do is link your cards and let our Carbonizer work its magic – no manual input required.
Our Carbonizer algorithms integrate rigorous, publicly available datasets, cutting-edge academic research, and local fuel and utility calculations. Over the past year, we’ve made updates that make our estimates even more precise.
Joro Carbon Portfolio: Support the Projects that Matter Most
The climate crisis won’t be reversed with a silver bullet. To reach net zero by 2050, we need to balance investments in shorter-term, cost-efficient carbon storage with longer-term, more expensive carbon storage.
No single carbon offset project can do it all. That’s why we created the Joro Carbon Portfolio, a carefully blended selection of climate solutions that align with the Oxford Principles for Offsetting. As a Net Zero Member, your monthly contribution supports a mix of high-quality projects with powerful collective impact.
The carbon offset market is one of the least reliable and efficient markets in the world – and some offsets are much, much better than others.
As offset skeptics, we’ve meticulously researched our portfolio projects. Finding the good projects takes a lot of work. Certifications like Gold Standard and Verra are a good starting point, but nowhere near enough. We’ve called up project developers, pored over reports, worked with third-party experts, and conducted our own rigorous research to verify their findings.
The result? Our hand-picked inaugural projects support climate justice, biodiversity, and innovation at a price of $20 per ton.
The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our lifetime – but we have the power to make real change. Joro’s Net Zero Membership allows you to compensate for the emissions you produce while funding projects with the greatest impact on helping us achieve the Paris Climate Targets.
As a member, you’ll access tips and insights to help you understand the most impactful measures you can take to live more sustainably. Together, we’re building a network of support and mobilization that can turn individual action into systemic change.
